3 THINGS TANZANIA MANAGERS SHOULD KNOW;

          3
 THINGS, TANZANIA MANAGERS SHOULD KNOW
                      ABOUT THEIR SALES PEOPLE.

1.      In this country, most sales people hate their jobs as “sales executives,” only considering sales as a stepping stone to a better position. Instead many always end up QUITTING or GETTING FIRED.
Sales is only one of the many marketing components but a very crucial one, especially in our country where effective means of advertisements are limited.
A sales person should be regarded as the personal communicator of information, and a persuader of prospective clients with the skills of closing a sale. Growing businesses need to use sales people as communicators before anything else.
Most sales people and their managers choose to let sales be all about selling while marketing be all about customers satisfaction, this has led to many sales people acting like greedy vultures because they have targets to meet, and would care less about the company’s brand or the client’s needs.

2.      Mangers should know that the sales people are their ambassadors in a journey of creating great household names, which means they have to be fully trained to be able to close sales, while maintaining a great lasting relationship with the clients.
In this country selling is regarded as the lowest-rated job category making many Tanzanian young men take the profession for granted. A company that chooses to respect and listen to their sales team has chosen to build a great image for itself. Yes! A sales person has not done his job until he closes a sale, but that is not all a sales person has to do for your company.
With the need for Innovations and creativity in managing a great brand, this team that is always out there meeting clients and competitors should be given a chance and knowledge to participate in Innovations and creativity. They need to be trained to know all the tricks and necessary skills required to be professional sales people; otherwise they go out there and destroy the reputation of your business.
As long as a sales person is well trained and proven to be a good employee, closing or not closing, these people play a big role in your company. They advertise you directly to potential clients, they generate possible leads, they participate in creating success of new and old products, and they remind potential clients of your brand. So don’t just expect them to close sales, expect them to be professional in their everyday journey of building not just a good brand but an excellent one.

3.      When the sales person doesn’t close a sale, don’t directly assume he/she is not good enough. Go through you brand once more; is your price reasonable? Your targeting? Did your competitor improve something? Is your sales team not well trained? Are you missing something here? If the answers to these questions satisfy you, then you can think of firing your sales person.

EFFECTIVE MARKETING VS AMATUER MARKETING IN TANZANIA.

EFFECTIVE MARKETING VS AMATUER MARKETING
 IN TANZANIA.

Tanzania is one of the countries with the highest market competition in the world; it comes from both inside and outside the country. The bad news is, competition from outside Tanzania comes from well branded products, something that many Tanzanian’s know nothing about or care to. Despite the fact that Tanzania companies are able to operate at lower costs and are rich of the local knowledge, there is the worst news that the Tanzania markets are well exposed, and committed to these international brands.
But, the good news is the only thing missing is building and maintaining powerful brands to win our own markets.

To get a respectable market share, you need to be good at marketing and you need to have a really, really, really good marketing team.
It is pure common sense that giving away brochures, placing ads in the loco news, commercials on television and having a little sales team out there, will not bring in clients like rainfall. All that can work a little bit, but don’t be surprised if only three people call or no one even pops in to see what’s up.

To Extend and maintain a great number of customers, you need so much more than an advertising project. You need an aggressive, gorilla war advertising campaign.
You can do this by running a powerful advertising campaign with a unique selling preposition after reasoning customer economic behavior, expectations and your brand position. You need to include promotion strategies that will make your customers and community know you like the palm of their hands, and love you all the way.

And then branding, even though it includes most of the things mentioned above, I have to emphasize on it to make you understand how crucial it is.
A good brand helps you create customer loyalty. It makes up for your mistakes, it rings in the head of you customer like a sweet chariot melody and most of all it creates a good future for your product sales.

Budget is also another important aspect; you need to think of the ROI before you blindly invest in any advertising campaign. Don’t just Google or copy what your competitors do, before you are sure it is the best way out both effectively and economically.
Don’t keep up with the printing companies’ sales people who care nothing about building you a great brand. Its now a common habit in this country for printing companies’ sales people to hunt around like greedy vultures every where, some of these guys don’t even own an office or belong to any printing company, but they can get you into printing and printing till your head is out of ink and you can’t think straight any more.

What Airtel did to Vodacom brand? (Tanzania)
In Tanzania we say “Ngoma droo,” we can also call this tag of war “kutangulia sio kufika.”
If anyone knows the Airtel story then they know how aggressive it is in business, what it did to vodacom is nothing personal though, just business. Airtel embraced branding as one of the most important aspects to help them cover market growth, financial performance, cultural aspects and government relations, which they happily did in only one year all over Africa.
After buying Zain and its operations in 15 countries, Airtel was officially launched in Africa in 2010. Their plans to cover Africa, to rebrand in a continent which is absolutely diverse was definitely a major challenge and given there were well established companies like Vodafone(Vodacom TZ) and MTN.
In Tanzania we have seen this transformation three times; from celtel to zain, before we could adapt it changed to airtel and to this day we hardly know what to call it anymore.
But during this last transformation, Vodacom was also rebranding where we saw it move from a colour mostly used in bathrooms to the most powerful action oriented colour, psychologically proven to make people take action; red! As if all that wasn’t enough, Vodacom’s new logo was amazingly modern and perfect, everyone was aware of it kids, old, blue, yellow and black people. But beforeVodacom couldn't cherish the attention, along came Aritel with almost the same image and everything that people could hardly differentiate them.

by tycoon branding co.

Now that was not all; whatever Vodacom was doing Airtel did it better. Airtel became part of our towns and if Airtel ever moved away from us our towns would look deserted. Airtel moved to every part of this country negotiating, sponsoring, cheating, helping, employing, annoying, entertaining, and everything else any giant company does. It even made rebranding the new way out.

keep up keen feeders, you deserve the first position and the good news  is the result of the research Tycoon branding company did, shows there is so much glory  ahead of you to accomplish because so many people believe in you and your brand is so close to perfect.

6 THINGS EVEN SMART TANZANIA BUSINESSMEN DO WRONG DURING TRADE SHOWS.

Ridiculous sale strategies:
They say its better an enemy who looks in your eyes and say he hates you, than a friend who puts you down behind your back. If there is one thing companies in Tanzania are doing to hurt themselves, is having themselves wrong marketing managers, who lead a wrong sales team.  Like this one communication company at the Nanenane celebrations; that as if selling a very wrong image wasn’t enough for all eight days, their unorganized sales team like crazy poor monkeys desperately kept trying to sale simcards while their competitors were selling the best image, having the biggest well branded booths, great promotions and major sales. This team hung around cracking jokes, that their regional manager was as good as a cabbage, and he cared less about the success of the company.
So users kept admiring the digits on the card sold by this company and telling each other they wish they could use the cards, which they weren’t going to because after all, this company has a major problem in airtime distribution in Arusha. Why waste billions in advertisements that don’t really make sense and then desperately sale simcards while you can’t/don’t sale airtime. I wonder if the Dar headquarters is aware of this little mischief.

Wrong expectations:
Most Tanzania business men have wrong expectations from tradeshows which lead to wrong preparations which then lead to poor results during tradeshows.
Yes! making money should be a company’s number one priority, but how long you keep making this money should be your first question.
Those who have visited Sabasaba, Arusha trade fair or Nanenane celebrations must’ve realised that small companies have logos, a good theme but the company owners don’t know exactly what their little logos are really for. That’s why they all look so gloomy in the first place.
Then, you have the big companies with an excellent Brand, but then their marketing team knows nothing about it or have never even heard of the word Brand, I suppose it must be stuck some where in their subconcious mind with no business to be any where else, because no one has heard of a college that doesn't teach of  branding in a marketing class.  So while the bosses are somewhere in Dar or wherever, their marketing teams are busy doing nothing important at trade show than desperately trying to sale or not.
To cut a long story short, these are a few of the reasons why most companies in Arusha didn’t show up at this year Nanenane leaving it to the “machingas” who surely took full advantage of it .
And well of course, some businessmen who did attend kept complaining they’ll never attend again. Why is it so easy to quit than to learn?

 Forgetting plan B, C & D:
While you are not a host of the entire trade show, you are obviously hosting your business. You need to prepare for tradeshows early enough to make sure that you take full advantage of these special and rare events, because  they could completely raise your yearly sales and customer loyalty to a very great extent.
Most companies make late decisions in joining without enough preparations, so at the end of the day they waste money to join a trade show without taking full advantage of it. Some go with one plan and if it’s not working they can’t switch to plan B. A marketing team needs to be very creative and have a broad foresight of everything around them.

All those wired unnecessary decorations: not only do some businessmen waste a lot of money, but it seems like they don’t even know what they are doing at these trade fairs. I’ve seen it all during this Nanenane; banks, real estates developers and other well respected businessmen decorating their booths as if they running a traditional chinnnese wedding. No identity, no brand image whatsoever. All they can do is hang colourful curtains and hang around desperately trying to make sales. That wastes money they could have done a lot with in those eight days, than their imagination could expect.

Location:
Nobody knows what exactly goes inside some business men’s head when they are looking for a business spot, but unless you have extremely good marketing plans, the first things you need to consider before setting a business are people, demands & movements at that particular area. Most people look for fancy places with beautiful surroundings without even reconsidering and observing a place for a few days; they desperately buy because the tenants said someone else will take it.
Like this one field at the Nanenane grounds that was the most beautiful area in the whole place, it was fully booked days before the celebrations but for days business men went without having a single client to even peep and say hi. So we had to advice them to walk out with their tables, get a clown, and attract as much attention as possible.

A message especially to the young entrepreneurs.
Yes, small dreams are a waste. And it’s a shame to see college graduates do the same old things their great grandmothers did. You need to be creative and dream really big but you also have to know not everything you touch should turn into gold, and if this is what you keep expecting you will give up way to soon.
Many young enterprenuer tried to participate during these nanenane celebrations and many ended up disappointed, who kept saying it wasn’t meant for them to succeed and all that, people should stop believing in meant to bes. Only your efforts and smart moves can take you places in fact you should never ever believe in the terms “good luck and bad luck” they are just expressions,  they dont really exist!
Young entrepreneurs had invested in this Nanenane and due to poor preparation and before hand knowledge, their plans didn’t go well. But they must have learnt a lot and that is all that matters when starting a business; to learn through experience and failures. Any extremely successful man must have failed a hundred times and most of these times it must have hurt so badly, but it is what makes them who they are today.

SUCCESS; LEARN FROM THE GREAT HUNTER OF ALL LIFE TIME.

 It’s the commitment
A lion wakes up every morning and lives knowing he has to do what he has to do and that’s what he does; hunt. Alone or in a group hunting down prey is a risk with no discussion. The only thing in the mind of a lion is to get his prey be it a gazelle, zebra, giraffe, a hippo or a rhino and there is no laziness or delay only that he does his thing with so much caution. Lions are smart investors of their time and energy.

It’s their Aim, Aim of a jungle beast. You will never believe how low a lion can lay, it as if it disguises itself. A lion can watch or follow it’s prey for two whole days without loosing sighth, waiting for the right time. Once you are in the lion’s crosshairs, its guaranted; he will take you down.
So in my learning about lions, the best thing i discovered is that a Lion targets, say if there were ten of you, she would never just attack randomly. She picks out exactly the one she want, the goes for him, no matter what she won't change plan on what prey to attack after she has you in her crosshairs.

Team work: I never liked team work i thought i was best on my own but I now compromise, giving it all the respect I can. I know different minds and efforts can bring a whole lot of changes.
Watching lions hunt is like watching soldiers at a war scene; hiding quietly while giving each other signals and aiming tips. But then lions do it so magnificently, they really watch. They could just sit there and watch for so long as if they never want to make the wrong move. I saw three lions attacking a big buffalo, they surrounded it slowly then attacked. One literally used his paws to covers the buffalo’s mouth and nose so he won’t breath, the other climbed on his back pushing him to fall and the other one hung on his neck…

And lol! You just never know technology and all.
